Marvel Studios might have found a new director for its upcoming superhero film "Ant-Man."
"Anchorman" director Adam McKay is in talks with the film studio to direct the flick starring Paul Rudd as the size-shifting superhero who can communicate with insects,The Hollywood Reporter reported.
McKay, 46, may be the successor of Edgar Wright, who left the project last week due to creative differences with the film studio.
"Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their visions of the film," read a statement issued Friday, May 23. "The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015."
Multiple sources claim that Wright decided to exit the project after Marvel changed a version of the script that he and Joe Cornish penned, according to Variety.
Shortly after his departure from the project made headlines, the 40-year-old English filmmaker took to Twitter and posted an image of the silent film star Buster Keatonholding a Cornetto ice cream cone. Film geeks think Wright, who directed the "The World's End," "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead" collectively known as "The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy" is referencing Keaton's own studio issues in the late 1920s. But Wright removed the said tweet less than 24 hours later.
McKay was not the only director who reportedly met with Marvel President Kevin Feige this past week. Aside from him, sources told THR that "We're The Millers" director Rawson Marshall Thurber and "Zombieland" director Ruben Fleischer are also among the contenders to helm "Ant-Man."
Together with Will Ferrell, McKay is also currently producing upcoming comedy film "Get Hard." The film, which was penned by Jay Martel and Ian Roberts, stars Ferrell,Kevin Hart, Alison Brie, Craig T. Nelson, Gary Owen and Jay Pharoah. It is set to hit theaters on March 27, 2015.
