When it comes to promoting a new film, controversy can be a good thing, but the poster for an upcoming thriller is being blasted for showing too much skin. The image of Eva Green is just a bit too sexy and revealing for the MPAA.
The poster for Sin City: A Dame to Kill Fordefinitely gets your attention, since leading lady Eva Green is holding a gun while barely covered by a very sheer white robe. The see-through wrapper is arousing disapproval from the Motion Pictures Association of America, which objects to the poster due to “nudity — curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.”
According to E! News, Dimension Studios is currently working on a compromise that will be acceptable to the MPAA. Most likely, this means another layer of material will be digitally added to cover Green’s breasts. The too-revealing poster may not make it into published ads, but it has already served its purpose in getting buzz for the film.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is the sequel to the 2005 hit Sin City which was based on the graphic novels of Frank Miller, with Miller and Robert Rodriguez returning as directors. Also returning are original cast members Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Rosario Dawson. Joining them in the action thriller with cameos are Josh Brolin, Jaime King, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theaters on August 22, more than two months from now, but this sizzling poster is sure to arouse plenty of interest in the film. By late summer, most of the family-friendly blockbusters will have already made their debuts, and the grownups will be ready to head for the multiplex for a sexy thriller. Meanwhile, a new, less risqué ad is likely to surface in the near future.
