Bryan Singer blasts 'sick and twisted' abuse claims
The 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' director has broken his silence on a lawsuit filed last week by Michael F. Egan, 31, who claims he was forced to perform sex acts on the filmmaker at a Californian house party in the late 1990s after being plied with drugs and alcohol.
As a result of the allegations, Bryan, 48, has decided to bow out of the upcoming media tour to promote his blockbuster new 'X-Men' movie, which stars a string of A-listers including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence and Halle Berry.
In a statement issued through his publicist, Bryan said: 'The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false.
''I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. This fantastic film is a labour of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I've decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film.''
As well as strenuously denying the sex abuse claims, Bryan believes the lawsuit filed in Hawaii by Michael is a ''shake down'' for money.
He added: ''I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support.''
In a lawsuit filed last week, Michael's attorney alleges the Hollywood director performed sex acts on the then teenager and forced him to do the same.
It's also claimed Bryan promised the young aspiring actor a movie role and regularly met Michael for sexual liaisons at the ages of 15 and 16, and they took multiple trips to Hawaii when he turned 17.

Cab riders predict ‘American Hustle’ to win Oscar
City cab riders flagged “American Hustle” as most likely to win Best Picture in the Academy Awards on Sunday in a back-seat survey conducted by the Taxi and Limousine Commission.
They also predicted that Jennifer Lawrence, who plays a con man’s wife in the film, would catapult past Lupita Nyong’o of “12 Years a Slave” for Best Supporting Actress — giving her 45 percent of passengers’ votes compared with 23 percent for Nyong’o.
Between Feb. 3 and Friday, almost 120,000 riders used Taxi TV to cast their votes.
For Best Actress, Sandra Bullock scored 35 percent of the vote for her role as an engineer on her first shuttle mission in the space thriller “Gravity” — beating out Amy Adams, who got 24 percent for her con-artist role in “American Hustle.”
Riders also expected “The Wolf of Wall Street” to do well, and voted for Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill as most likely to score Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for their performances.
DiCaprio was a clear winner with 40 percent of the votes. But riders also liked Bradley Cooper in “American Hustle” as a close runner-up to Hill, with the two earning 23 and 24 percent, respectively.
Steve McQueen was also a favorite with the back-seat crowd and considered most likely to win the Best Director award for “12 Years a Slave.”
He squeaked past close competitor Alfonso Cuarón, who directed “Gravity.”
More than half of voters picked “Frozen” for Best Animated Feature, followed by “Despicable Me 2,” which got 29 percent.
Conan Freud, the TLC’s chief operating officer, told The Post that taxis and the movies go together — from “It’s a Wonderful Life” to “Scrooged,” “Taxi Driver” and “Home Alone 2.”
His favorite cab cameo is Eddie Murphy’s ride to Queens in “Coming to America.”
“Of course, a real taxi can’t handle that much luggage, but I have absolute confidence that our cabbies are every bit as willing to go the extra mile as Jake Steinfeld’s character was,” he said of that film.
Freud said that despite riders’ penchant for “American Hustle” and “Gravity” star Bullock, he will be rooting this Sunday for “Captain Phillips” and Cate Blanchett, nominated for Best Actress in “Blue Jasmine.”
“I think that part of the fun for some survey participants may have been thinking about how taxis and cabbies have earned their place in movie history while they voted,” he said.
The TLC began surveying riders for the first time last year.
They predicted “Lincoln” would scoop up the Best Picture award — but it was beaten out by political thriller “Argo.”
Riders did correctly pick Daniel Day-Lewis as Best Actor for “Lincoln,” as well as “Brave” for Animated Feature.

Jennifer Lawrence May Take A Year Off From Hollywood

It turns out Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t kidding when she said she was going to turn off her cellphone for a year after finishing work on the Hunger Games trilogy. According to producer Harvey Weinstein, J-Law really is taking a year-long hiatus from Hollywood.
“She’s going to have a long break for a year where she won’t do anything. It’s been non-stop for her and she deserves a rest,” the Silver Linings Playbook producer told the U.K.’s Sun on Sunday, referring to Lawrence’s recent schedule.
On top of her Hunger Games duties—which has recently included promoting 2013′s Catching Fire and filming the upcoming sequels Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2—Lawrence has also been doing the awards ceremony rounds for her Oscar-nominated role in David O. Russell’s American Hustle. What’s more, she also stars in X-Men: Days of Future Past and the Depression-era period film Serena, both out later this year.
“Jennifer is too nice and will do people favors and agrees to do a movie like American Hustle when she could have had a rest,” Weinstein explained. “She signed on to do Hunger Games when she was young and wouldn’t have realised how much it would dominate her life. But she’s a professional and always will be.”
Though a world without J-Law might disappoint some—she is the quintessential Hollywood darling of the moment, after all—the time away from the spotlight might be good for the actress’s career as well as her sleep schedule. Sure, she’s already an award magnet and a fan favorite, but as Jezebel points out, there has been some backlash against the star as well.
Whether the J-Law fatigue is warranted or not, a year-long break could give everyone the chance to remember and really appreciate just how refreshing she really is.
